Dear Singers, November 2018
I wanted to extend to you an official invitation to join the Waupaca Community Chorus for what promises to be an enjoyable and memorable 56th Concert. If you have not sung with us in a number of years….This is the year to come back!
The year of 2019 will be the 56th anniversary of performing major choral works here in small-town Waupaca. This year we will be commemorating World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War, by presenting a new work by Dan Forrest – Requiem for the Living. The second half will feature songs of Faith, Hope, and Peace and we will feature composers such as Mack Wilberg, Andre’ Thomas and other American composers. I am especially excited to feature the work Hope for Resolution by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory. This work features a European chant melody and an anti-apartheid song from South Africa in a celebration of diversity. While the first half is in Latin, the second half is sung almost entirely in English
The concert weekend will be Saturday, April 6th and Sunday, April 7th. Our first rehearsal will be Tuesday, January 8th in the choir room of Waupaca High School. The scores will be on sale in the Commons/Lobby Hallway of the high school from 6:45 to 7:30 PM with a rehearsal from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. Tuesday rehearsals will be from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Included in this period will be at least two weeks of sectional work for men vs. women.
The cost of music and participation will be $30.00. You will receive seven scores for performance, and the choir is not making a profit on anything sold to you. I encourage you to listen to the choir selections on YouTube. The complete program is listed on the opposite side of this letter.
I also want to address the issue of weather and attendance. In past years, it was reported to me that many members felt that due to poor weather conditions early in the rehearsal schedule that they choose not to join. While attendance at rehearsals is important to our journey together, do not let a few missed rehearsals due to poor weather or vacation plans prohibit you from being a member of this experience!
Don’t miss this, our 56th Anniversary Concert celebrating these great choral works. Do pass the invitation to any singers in the area to join your Community Choir. Previous experience not required. Bring a new friend; we are always seeking energetic new members.
