Singer detail and invitation below
Note from Dan Wolfgram, Director
Dear Singers, December 2023
I hope this singer invitation letter finds you in good health and even better spirits. I wanted to extend to you an official invitation to join the Waupaca Community Chorus for what promises to be an enjoyable and memorable 61st Anniversary Concert. How excited I am to see you and make music with you! Last year’s concert, with a return to a full orchestra, was fulfilling indeed!
This year I am looking to reprise an “oldie but goodie,” and then introduce a few new selections to you. I am programming Mozart’s Requiem, Ave Verum Corpus, and Joseph Martin’s The Awakening. The requiem was last performed in 2009 after the passing of Gerald Knoepfel. The Ave Verum Corpus is a stand alone classic by Mozart and is very accessible. The Awakening by Joesph Martin was originally programmed to be performed during our Covid hiatus, so some of you may still have this in your files. The Awakening is a stand-alone modern-day signature piece which I will look to use as our closer.
The first half of the concert we will perform the Requiem, and in the second half the choir will be featured on the Ave Verum Corpus and The Awakening. I am looking to feature our soloists from the first half in a selection of their choice to be interspersed with the choral selections. The Requiem does not contain a great volume of material for the soloists so to entice them to be a part of this year’s concert, I am giving them their choice of a Mozart aria to be performed with orchestra.
The concert weekend is slated for Saturday, April 6th (dress rehearsal) and the concert on Sunday, April 7th at 2:30 PM in the Waupaca High School PAC.
Our first rehearsal will be Tuesday, January 9th in the choir room of Waupaca High School. The scores will be on sale in the Commons/Lobby Hallway of the high school from 6:45 to 7:30 PM with a rehearsal from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. Tuesday rehearsals will be from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Masking is optional, and we welcome all ages!
The cost of music and participation will be $15.00. You are welcome to use your own personal scores from previous performances. These will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. If you are using your own score, we ask that you contribute $5.00 for membership dues. Please note that since the previous edition of the Mozart Requiem used in 2009 is no longer available, I do recommend the purchase of a new score.
I also want to address the issue of weather and attendance. In past years, it was reported to me that many members felt that due to poor weather conditions early in the rehearsal schedule, they chose not to join. While attendance at rehearsals is important to our journey together, do not let a few missed rehearsals due to poor weather or vacation plans prohibit you from being a member of this experience!
Don’t miss this, our 61 st Anniversary Concert celebrating these great choral works. Do pass the invitation to any singers in the area to join your Community Choir. Our mailing list has gone through significant versions over the past several years, and we don’t want anyone who did not receive a letter feel as though they are not welcome. Previous experience and audition are not required. Bring a new friend; we are always seeking energetic new members.
